Art & Travel Go Hand-in-Hand

VacationDiggs happened to come across a travel blog that was written by Teresa Dominici who’s a self-taught artist.  Teresa was born in Tanzania (East of Africa) and has had the pleasure of traveling around the world. Her blog contains beautiful paintings of her on going journey’s to the sights she’s visited.  I was so impressed with her lovely paintings I thought why not share them here with our readers. After all, travel and art go hand-in-hand.

Portofino, Italian Riviera  is a small Italian fishing village in Liguria which is located east of Genoa.  If your lucky enough to sit at the top of the hill near the Botanic garden here’s what the view looks like.

And heres Teresa’s version seen through her eyes and displayed in her paintings.

Portofine1aBellagio, Italy – The pearl of Como is a beautiful little town located on the promontory where lake Como separates into two branches.  The lakeside village with staircase streets is something that everyone should see, should you ever find yourself traveling to Italy.

Escape to Mykonos

It’s 37 degrees in Texas and the weather doesn’t look like it’s going to get warmer anytime soon so I really need an escape, even a virtual one.

Here goes ….. a photo-scape to one of the most stunning places on earth ~ Mykonos Island, Greece.

Overlooking gorgeous Panormos Bay sits the private community of Mykonos Panormos Villas and shown below is the main residence, in the community, whose name is Anassa ~  a place that looks like heaven to me right now — with idyllic, traditional whitewashed style,  spectacular water views,  and amazing outdoor areas. Ahhhhhhh! Paradise.

Cancun’s Underwater Museum

Back in 2009 a most bizarre and unusual project began to take form in the Mexican Caribbean, off the coast of Isla de Mujeres and Cancún. Man hand picked 400 Sculptures life size figurative sculptures and placed them underwater in the oceans seawater.  It’s now referred to as Cancun’s Underwater Museum.

Not just any sculptures either these sculptures were created and made with special artificial reefs from pH neutral clay that enables  marine life to grow.  The corals attract marine life to breed and take shelter in order to boost the local ecosystem. The beauty in all of this is that as time goes on the sculptures will naturally change as the coral grows as marine life inhabit the structures.

Corals build the rampart that shelters the landward provinces of mangrove and sea grass. The reef’s calcium carbonate city teems with species, among them this spiny-headed blenny.
And that’s why corals are so important!420647_10152742462615234_480101216_n

Within a few years these crystal clear waters will be home to one of the largest underwater museums on the planet.

Today divers and snorkelers (as there are shallow sections just for snorkeling),  come from all over the world to admire this underwater museum.  Depending on what operation you go with the prices range from $55.00 – $65.00 US dollars.  That include one tank dives and your gear along with your boat ride that takes you to your destination.

The big news is that the artist and founder of this project Jason de Caires Taylor who’s gained international recognition for his unique work, plans to add 63 new pieces to the museum this coming July.  One of pieces will be a unique kinetic sculpture boasting wings made of living fan coral with a listener feature device that allows you to hear near by sounds.

That should be some sight to see that you don’t want to miss if you happen to be vacating anywhere near the Isla de Mujeres in Cancun.  AND if you’re worried about diving or snorkeling don’t be, because after a few lessons it’s so easy that I’ve heard even the local pups can do it.

Cancun has everything you need to have the time of your life.  Situated on the south-east coast of Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo in the Yucatan Peninsula. Warm clear white powdery sand beaches and turquoise crystal clear waters await you with famous Mexican hospitality helps this make this a place like no other!

Ibiza News

Ibiza

If you’re planning a little vacation this summer and Ibiza’s on your wish list, you may want to consider traveling in May during Ibiza’s 3 Day Medieval Festival event.  This  specular three-day event a true journey back in time which can be enjoyed by all ages and is completely free of charge.

The annual festival starts on May 10th in Dalt Vila and it’s become an international audience affair celebrating being granted World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1999 in recognition of the island’s special cultural significance to the common heritage of humanity, and in honor of its long and well-preserved history.

01Originally known as Ebysos, which translates as the Town of Bes (Bes is the Phonoecian God of dance, accredited with leading all of the poisonous animals off Ibiza), Dalt Vila was founded by the Carthaginians in 654 BC and became the nub of Mediterranean navigation due to the maritime commerce of the Carthaginian Empire.

The same walls that were built ages ago that protected Ibiza from the Romans and the Greeks still have the imprints of their history right from the earliest settlers through to the Renaissance Age due to the fact that, rather than destroying the earlier fortifications, these were actually incorporated into the newer architecture.

It’s no surprise then that UNESCO classifies Dalt Vila the best preserved coastal fortification in the Mediterranean area…and definitely cause for an annual festival!

There streets will be nicely decorated with market booths displaying their arts and crafts selling all types of exotic spices, leather goods, soaps, jewelry, and all kinds of goodies and treats to eat while you stroll the streets and enjoy the music of live entertainment.

Vacation Rentals save more than Sense

VDblogpic copy

Wether going on a family vacation or a long term stay a vacation rental can save you a bunch of cash and provide amenities and an experience that you won’t find at a resort.

San Antonio, Texas – VacationDiggs.com is the newest vacation rentals site on the internet though its founder Angelica Alaniz, isn’t new to promoting and renting vacation rentals to travelers looking for a different type of vacation to a traditional resort of hotel.  Alaniz was the founder of 2 of the internets first vacation rental sites, Goin2travel.com and 4BeachNuts.com, sites that she sold early in 2004.  Angie is back in the vacation rental listing site business again with her latest venture, VacationDiggs.com. With a passion for finding travelers great deals and internet promotion it’s not surprise that Alaniz is back in the vacation rental business.

I sat down with Angie a few days ago and asked to discover “why vacation rentals?”

Perhaps this is a common question though I’m curious why would anyway want to stay at a vacation rental rather than a resort?

“There are numerous benefits of vacation rentals especially during the uncertain economic conditions that we face. Vacation rentals are great for both highly-budget conscious travelers, those on a tight budget or large groups looking to stay in a beautiful villa with incredible amenities — often at far less than the cost of renting hotel rooms.

Yes, a terrific vacation rental is going to require slightly more due diligence than staying at a well known resort, though the internet provides many ways today to ensure that you are getting exactly what the vacation rental owner says you are. With some searching and reading reviews, today’s savvy traveler can find a much better travel experience, nicer accommodations than a hotel room at a fraction of the cost. Nicer is somewhat personal taste though it’s certainly a “slower” and more “real” type of experience.

One of the major benefits of vacation rentals is you get more for your money. Vacation rentals typically provide you with far more privacy than than a single hotel room. For example, in the Caribbean or Hawaii at the same price as a two or three star hotel room, 3 couples can stay at a condo each couple will have the privacy of their own bedroom for what would typically be the cost of one hotel room. Now’s that’s tough to beat especially when you look at all the other amenities that come with vacation rentals.

Vacation rentals, like resorts, come in all shapes and size. They range from small studios in places like Paris and London, where staying at a hotel can be outrageously expensive, to villas that are suitable for royalty though when shared by a large group typically are extremely affordable especially in comparison to a hotel or resort.

Another major benefit of vacation rentals is that you can typically save even more based on longer term price breaks. Almost every vacation rental owner offers a number of price breaks that include weekly and monthly rental rates. For even longer term stays you can typically negotiate an even larger discounted rate, have the owner waive cleaning fees or include extra cleaning.

One of the other considerations for staying at a vacation rental is you get to be part of the “slow” travel movement. Instead of being rushed by the hustle and bustle typically associated with a resort, when you stay at a vacation rental you’ll typically be located in a residential resort community where you can live as the locals and long term residents do – or go into the faster paced lifestyle of the resort area. In Europe, vacation rentals are often located found away from the usual tourist spots, perfect for those trying to get off of the beaten path.

Staying at a vacation rental is also be terrific way for the budget conscious traveler to be able to stay at a better location than they could in a hotel. In places such as Cabo San Lucas or Hawaii, where there is a huge number of condos and villas, you can find great diggs right on, or near the beach, just the kind of location almost all vacationers would love and at far less than the price of a hotel room.

There are also other more obvious benefits of vacation rentals such as a full kitchen (great for saving money by eating in), often your own swimming pool or a shared one, many rooms just for you and your guests and the feeling that this is your home away from home. Typical other benefits of vacation rentals may include free equipment use, such as snorkels, boats, bicycles, surf boards and the extremely important washing machine.

Having stayed at many vacation rentals the experience is something that a traveler should discover :). It’s a wonderful way to travel and really get a feel for the place and save money while there.”

Thanks for sharing I’m definitely going to check out what you have at VacationDiggs.com.
